He turned from the display to look at the other two. "Federation attempts to use transwarp drives have resulted in failure because of the fundamental aspects of subspace, when you reach warp factor 10 in subspace you effectively exist in all points of n-space at the same moment and technology recognizes it only in regards to FTL travel. But if we can crack the technology and use Fractal space for travel and as Harry has mentioned before if we can make it energy efficient..." His voice trailed off for a moment before concluding with, "In the meantime I need to let the translation team know what we've found, if you'll excuse me." Harry nodded. It was an important find. "They'll be happy to have this." Jack said tapping the com again he spoke into it. "Ensign T'Vof I am sending you the Tch'kairn Rosetta stone compliments of our good doctor Trommashere, have fun. Haynes out." "Jericho..." Angeni whispered softly, "Harry...I can't believe this." She looked at both of them, sounding absolutely breathless. "We...we have to celebrate...or something...I don't know...just...do something." She put a hand on her head, then looked up at Jack and asked, "Anyone know where I can get a drink of water?" "Of course," Jack murmured as he rose from the chair and made his way to a replicator. While Jack was retrieving the requested water, Harry couldn't help but turn away from his console for a moment to regard his two associates. Jack looked heady, as if all the efforts of his life had suddenly paid off in spades. Angeni, looked somewhat overcome, which Harry had to admit made her even more attractive, although until that moment, he hadn't thought that possible. Jack returned with the glass of water and handed to Angeni who accepted it with a response of, "Thank you, you're wonderful." She mixed some sort of powder into the drink and then began sipping the drink. "And I agree by the way, I think a celebration is in order, the only question is in the where and when... And what types of refreshments are included." jack added, continuing the conversational thread that Angeni had started earlier. Angeni spun towards Harry, touching his arm, "I'm sure the three of us can figure something out...maybe whip up a holodeck program or just have a blast in Ten Forward. What do you think, Harry?" Harry's eyes widened only for a moment at the surprise of the feel of Angeni's warm hand through the arm of his uniform tunic. His head bobbed into a semblance of a nod. "Yeah, sure." he blurted out, "I mean, why not, right?" "In the meantime I have already mentioned to Harry that the department is going to have a private dinner this evening in ten forward, since you have been such an angel in bringing us the data chip you are of course invited along with the other teams working on the Tch'kairn problem. By the way since we've dropped the formalities my name ... or rather nickname is Jack." Jack interjected, drawing Angeni's attention back towards him. Angeni smiled up at him, "Jack...I think I can call you that." She blushed. Harry had to take a deep breath, there was too much excitement and tension in the room for his liking. It was distracting, it was clouding his ability to focus. He was picking up on the headiness of the situation, the excitement pouring out of his too colleagues, and perhaps there was a hint of excitement there as well, beyond that generated by the discovery. It was hard to distinguish between two type of elation, especially in mixed company. There was a pregnant pause for a moment and then, jack broke it with the declaration, "In the meantime I've got to get back to work." Angeni immediately responded in a pseudo-awkward moment, lending some credence to Harry's suppositions, at least in his own mind. She nodded, holding up a free hand. "Please, don't let me keep you." She stood up, taking her glass back to the replicator. Harry turned back to his console, and started looking at and altering the equations once again. A few moments passed and he could feel her presence behind, him as she looked over his shoulder at the work he was performing. he was acutely aware of the sound of her breathing and could imagine without much difficulty that she was much closer to him than she actually was. It was somewhat distracting, but Harry was at home in his own element of mathematics. Far removed from the complications of relationships between men and women, it was an easy system to master. One that had rules that were unbreakable, laws that could not be broken. They were impersonal and only demanded the attention that you decided could be devoted to a particular set of equations at any given time. He shook his head as he retrieved an equation that he had just made a significant Sigma sub error in, and corrected it. ~Yes women were much more distracting.~ he thought. "I have no idea how you keep all this straight in your head." She said as she smiled at him. "You will definitely have to show me some time what this all means. I hope you don't think I'm a bother, I just find this all fascinating." Harry turned away from the console and faced with her Angelic smile reciprocated in kind. "Sure, I'd love to." He replied, "As for keeping it straight, I suspect it's pretty much done the same way you keep all the pharmaceutical data straight in your head. It's just a different informational set. And not to worry, you're not a bother." ~Liar!~ he told himself after he'd said it. ~What in the world made you say that?~ "All right gang this has been fun but it's time for lunch." Jack said as he gave Harry a serious look. "And that's an order." Harry turned to regard the CSO for a moment, and was about to argue the point with him, but decided against it. He couldn't win the argument anyway. Harry watched as Angeni started collecting her things and sent a message to someone else via the primary terminal. he looked at Jack and coughed and made a slight head jerking motion towards the doctor. Fortunately, Angeni was looking the other way and didn't seem to notice his motion or the sound he made. Jack, however seemed to and amended his earlier statement. The CSO turned to Angeni. "Would you care to join ... us?" he then offered her his arm in a gentlemanly fashion. Angeni smiled as he offered his arm. She stopped for a moment, looking him in his eye, and she broke into a wide grin, setting her hand on his forearm. "I would be delighted!" She smiled, taking her arm off of his for a moment to slip back into her lab coat, then she turned to Harry, a giggle in her voice. "Coming?" Harry nodded. He quickly transferred the data to a set of PADDs, and picked them up as he rose from his terminal. "Certainly." he replied. Then something completely unexpected happened. she held out her hand to him. "The equations can wait for a bit..." She said. Harry fumbled mentally for a few moments. He turned and without rational thought, he placed the PADDs with the equations back on the desk near the terminal. "Okay, I suppose so." he replied, then he did something else that he could not explain. He took her hand. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Deck 6, High Energy Biophysics Lab - CMO Angeni O. Windsong-Trommashere- 1131) Angeni smiled between the two of them. She had no clue why she felt so relaxed and comfortable with them. She traced all the way back, realizing that she always felt comfortable with 'Men in Science.' She always felt comfortable, especially in High School, when she could have errant discussions with someone about a chemistry or lower level physics equations. She moved from between the two, walking backwards as she spoke. "So...tell me about yourselves...." (Reply Harry, Jack) "Me? Eh...what's there to know. I consider myself a Jane of all Trades...I've always tried to get my nose into anything and everything...that's why I made a pest of myself and hung around the Lab...everything is so fascinating there...then again, I guess a newcomber to the lab is like me having a newcomber to the Bay; everything seems bizzare and exciting to start with, and by minute 9, it's all old hat..." Looking at both men, she had a flutter of excitement and wonderment. She wanted to get to know them both on a more...interpersonal level, not just as another set of DNA to unravel. She made sure to keep her eyes off their arms and hands; she was looking for a new set of 'victims' for her medics to learn how to do old school blood draws and IV's...and she didn't want to find herself complimenting them on their nice veins. "So...what do you do in your spare time? When you're not busting the laws of physics into a million pieces that is?" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades - Deck 6, High Energy Biophysics Lab - CSO, Lt. (jg) Jericho Haynes - 1132) Jack enjoyed the feel of her hand on his uniformed arm as they made their way around the equipment and toward the door, it had been a long time since he had felt anything like it. He had purposely cordoned himself off emotionally from everyone since Shilae's death, not by design or for any coherent reason, it had just been an outward reaction to an inward collapse. Not that he was ready to dive headlong into an intense emotional relationship with any woman at this time ... it just felt good to let go of his restraint for a while and open himself up to the possibility of a friendship with a lovely member of the opposite sex. And he wasn't about to allow the elation of the moment to blind his eyes to the truth for more than a moment, he was just too rationally minded and knew that what was happening right now was due to the intoxication of their almost unprecedented discoveries ... in just a few short hours they had made a leap of decades at least in fractal science which could open up new horizons in communications and space travel. So it wasn't really any surprise when the pressure of Angeni's hand left his arm though he couldn't help but find himself begrudging its absence just a little. He wondered for an instant as well if Harry might be having the same type of reaction as she stepped in front of them and turned to face the both of them as they neared the portal. ~She has a nice smile.~ He thought as she regarded first one and then the other, it came easily but with an edge as though it wasn't accustomed to being trundled out too often which happened with a lot of people. Since Jack wasn't a counselor and had problems of his own to deal with he wasn't curious about why that might be... it just was. He slowed as they neared the door so that she wouldn't feel pressed to back blindly through it. "So...tell me about yourselves...." Not a question Jack wanted to answer at this time, he was having too much fun and he didn't want to go there again this soon after opening up to Harry so he decided to be flippant which he wasn't very good at. "Well .. uhm... I consider myself to be a decent scientist who loves his job, never more so than now." He forced the smile back onto his face which had fled briefly at the question, it stayed there he noted with relief as he considered if there was anything he needed to add. Unmarried? ~Nah, too suggestive.~ A widower? ~No! Too depressing! She wouldn't want to be hit with that surely. No need to bring her down from a good mood, I've been too much of a downer already today.~ "I don't have any family anymore but that's a story for another time." He motioned for her to be careful as she stepped back and the door behind her opened. "Watch your step." (Reply: Harry) As they stepped into the corridor he turned the question back on her to satisfy his own curiosity. "And what about yourself Angeni?" "Me? Eh...what's there to know. I consider myself a Jane of all Trades...I've always tried to get my nose into anything and everything...that's why I made a pest of myself and hung around the Lab...everything is so fascinating there...then again, I guess a newcomber to the lab is like me having a newcomber to the Bay; everything seems bizzare and exciting to start with, and by minute 9, it's all old hat..." Her dazzling smile broke out again, she was obviously having fun and the more it was let out the more natural it looked. "So...what do you do in your spare time? When you're not busting the laws of physics into a million pieces that is?" Jack looked over at Harry who seemed content to allow him to tackle that one first as well. "I don't do that much outside of work right now though I do get to the holodeck now and again." He gave a slight chuckle. "And I like a snort of real alcohol now and again, if that makes me a bad man then so be it!" He winked to show he was kidding. "I don't have much of a tolerance for the formulated, sanitized and tamed version of what used to be a really entertaining pastime, why you never hear of people dancing on tables after drinking synthehol now do you?" His smile was genuine then, he liked to crack an occasional joke though not everyone shared his sense of humor. "What about you Harry? Ever do anything after drinking synthehol you were actually ashamed of? Takes all the fun out of it doesn't it?" (Reply: Harry, Angeni) He shrugged. "Born on Earth actually in south central North America, used to be called Texas at one time so I've done some time in the country. Spent some time hanging with the Indians at the reservation in Oklahoma when I was younger as well. About all I want to get into at this time, you'll have plenty of time to be depressed by my life story after you get to know me better." Since they were now nearing the turbolift he began giving some thought about what he might like to have for lunch this time. ~Ought to be fitting the occasion, wonder if they'll fix a big T-bone steak medium rare and if it would be worth eating considering it would be replicated.~ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- USS Hades - Deck 18 Main Engineering - ATAC Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof - 1133) "Hello, I came as fast as I could." she explained, "how can I be of service." The honey-skinned counsellor walked over to the trio of officers turned linguists. Lo'ren looked up at the salutation and greeted the new addition to the group. "Ah, Cousellor Ripley. Glad you could make it." The computer piped up cheerily just at the moment Lo'ren was going to take to give Ana a quick briefing. [Language base complete.] Lo'ren smiled and rolled her eyes, "And it appears you have perfect timing. I hope you have your protocols ready for us, as we are ready for you." Ana smiled, and turned to head back to her office. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Deck 6, High Energy Biophysics Lab -CMO Angeni O. His smile was genuine then, he liked to crack an occasional joke though not everyone shared his sense of humor. "What about you Harry? Ever do anything after drinking synthehol you were actually ashamed of? Takes all the fun out of it doesn't it?" Angeni smiled, laughing at the thought. Oddly, it warmed her heart to hear about the actions of people hopped up on Ethanol. She remembered playing Paramedic, and on a good Friday or Saturday night, the start of any trip sheet was notoriously: The patient had an initial blood alcohol level of >.25... "I do have to admit, Jack, sometimes, it does take the fun out of things sometimes....Where were you born? where are you from?" "Born on Earth actually in south central North America, used to be called Texas at one time so I've done some time in the country. Spent some time hanging with the Indians at the reservation in Oklahoma when I was younger as well. About all I want to get into at this time, you'll have plenty of time to be depressed by my life story after you get to know me better." "Oh really? I was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee." She giggled and put her hand over her mouth, hearing the slight drawl she she had spent years trying to cover up. She shook her head, sighing softly. She tap danced around her next words. "I grew up on a reservation myself..." Her eyes darted around, wondering how quickly to get out of this line of conversation that she didn't want to continue. She rubbed the back of her neck, her face flushed. "I can't wait to get to know both of you better." She winked at both of them, "So...what type of Ethanol do you partake in you pseudo-bad man? I have a bottle or two aboard of a rose and honeysuckle wine...nothing major, but the occasional sip of Vodka or Tequila always produce a bit of fun." She moved back in line with them, gently leaning against Harry, looking up at him with a smile. She countered with a flush, rubbing the back of her neck gently. Her energy was beginning to fall, and she began wondering if a huge dish of mannicotti was in order. The idea of a hot steaming dish of pasta made her mouth water, and she was probably looking at Harry with a dazed, loved struck glaze over her eyes. "Sorry..." she said gently, "I'm starving. It's shocking just how much energy is used up in something like this." She felt bad for Jack and Harry. She was sure that they had made various discoveries similar to the ones that they had made today, and she felt like she were nothing more than a Fan Girl who struck theroetical gold, and she was just hanging around the people who actually knew what was going on. Her face flushed again, and she turned her eyes to the floor, studying the grain of the carpet as they walked. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Deck 10, Ten Forward - SciO, Ensign Harry Doorman- 1137) Their path led them to Ten Forward, and the three entered the room in relative silence. The place wasn't as crowded as it would be in a little under 20 minutes, so they had managed to be seated quickly near a window. The table was equipped with four chairs and only two available sides, which made things a little complicated, in as much as Harry was certain that both gentlemen would like to sit next to the Lovely doctor. The thought shocked him somewhat, since he had never really considered himself much of a romantic sort. He supposed that at least some of his interest in Angeni may be a result of both his inherent isolation from others as well as the exhilaration of the moment. It was after all a documented fact that sexual interest peaked at moments when you were either threatened or excited physiologically speaking. The biochemical effects, he had been told, were similar, and so too were the by products. He paused long enough to allow the other two to take their seats, then he assumed one of the remaining empty seats. The waiter appeared much too suddenly and started asking for orders, since Harry had no idea what he wanted to eat, as he had been thinking about nothing except the Doctor and the equations the entire time, he waited to order until last. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Deck 10, Ten Forward - CSO, Lt (jg) Jericho Haynes- 1138) Jack waited till Angeni was seated seat before taking a seat facing the door according to a long ingrained habit. The waiter appeared quickly to Jack's relief since he was thirsty. "What may I get you to drink?" The man asked the table at large, not being one to dally Jack was the first to speak up. "I'll have a glass of sweet iced tea." Having ordered refreshment he then waited for the others. (Reply: Angeni, Harry) The idea of a steak had gone out the window because of the heaviness of the meal, there was still more work to be done today and he didn't need it weighing him down and making him drowsy, that would have to wait till the evening so a change of plans were in order. Jack's mood had also changed during the walk since it had seemed the doctor enjoyed Harry's company at least as much as his own. Believing he was not ready for a relationship was a far cry from not being interested in one and Jack did have a bit of a jealous streak pop up at times which was benign though tangible and sitting here at the table wasn't helping to lighten his mood. Harry was a good sort, the type Jack would wish the best for after all but as a man Jack couldn't help but be a bit competitive. Seeing the waiter return with their drinks he gave a brief smile as the sweating glass of iced tea was placed before him, picking it up he took a long, slow sip and enjoyed the flavor. After handing the others their order the man asked. "Are you ready to order now or would you like a moment?" Jack waited for the lady to order first. (Reply: Angeni) Jack hadn't needed to check a menu. "Bring a loaf of crusty bread to the table with toasted garlic and butter, I'd like a slice with roasted tomato, basil and grated parmesian and toasted lightly. For an entree give me a small shrimp diavolo with linguini and roasted cherry tomatoes." Having ordered he leaned back in the chair again and looked away from the table to watch the room while he wondered what it might feel like to not be alone any more. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Deck Six, Science Lab One/Two, ACSO Ensign (JG) Kenneth McKenzie, 12:11 hours) Kenny walked into the doors of the Science Lab One, he nodded to the repair team. The lunch he had made him feel more energetic and he wanted to get his work done now. He always understood that a good meal and rest helps everyone at times. "Report." he said casually, placing this hands behind his back, standing in his not-too-formal pose. One of the team, a Human female of Asian origin, turned and walked over to him. "Seems to be a blown gel pack and relayes, most likey done when too much power is put into the system without being checked. One of the parts of the ship was missed during repairs. Happens. Standard stuff. Should be done soon." "Great. Keep me informed. I'll be next door at lab Two." "Understood." she said and walked back over a console. Kenny left the room and entered Science Lab Two. He had a small feeling that he was going to see it blacked out and more teams, in stead he was happy to find Bolan and a few Science crewpersons working at stations. "Ah, Bolan. How are things coming along?" Kenny asked (Reply Ensign Bolan.) "OK, from what I know, we should be ready to send the message, all we have to do once we're done is contact MacLiam to see how he's going, then inform Lt. Hanyes." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades - Deck 6 - Science Lab 2 - Ensign (jg) Bolan Tavik - 1212) The one thing Bolan hated was getting nowhere and with this task he was getting nowhere in a hurry. After Science Lab One blew, he had been irritated beyond belief. He wanted to get this show on the road. He worked alongside some science officers in hopes of completing the test. He looked up as Kenny walked in. "Ah, Bolan. How are things coming along?" he asked. "Just as droopily as ever." Bolan chuckled. "You find anything out?" "OK, from what I know, we should be ready to send the message, all we have to do once we're done is contact MacLiam to see how he's going, then inform Lt. Hanyes." "That ought to take no time at all." Bolan said sarcastically. Things were going slowly it was only a matter of time though before they would finish everything. Bolan patiently contacted Eoin through the Comm system. =/\= "Tavik to Mac Liam. Eoin, how you coming along? =/\= --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Deck Six, Science Lab One/Two, ACSO Ensign (JG) Kenneth McKenzie, 13:16 ) Kenny finished his review of the language for yet another time. He wanted to make sure that they had got it right. Although there where still some parts they did not understand, they were sure that they aliens would be able to understand them, at the very lest, understand that they were trying to get in touch with them and help them. Kenny closed the files on the consol screen and stretched. It was only just one in the afternoon but it seemed like longer. However, he could not keep his mind from what he hard heard. There were roomers around the ship that the Borg were responsible. Kenny shivered. he had never met the Borg and nor did he ever want to, but he did know that they were the greatest threat to the Alpha Quardrant. Then againm he would not put it past them. "I hope that does it. said Bolan. "One can always hope it will work perfectly." "Aye. We've ran many tests and nothing has gone wrong. I think our new friends should be able to understand us. I don't think we need to test anymore. Lets save the files as they are, and get in touch with MacLiam" =/\="Mac Liam and Tavik, please meet me in Main Engineering bay as soon as possible, CEO Wright out." =/\= "She sounded in a hurry. Be back in a little bit." said Bolan. Kenny nooded "Sure. I'll finished up here. Since your going to see MacLiam, ask him on his status, then report back to me with the info. After that, we'll inform Hanyes." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades – OPS Office - COPS Lt. Maraht – 1330) Back in his office, Maraht settled himself behind his desk. He booted up his terminal. Activating his commbadge he said, "Maraht to Lieutenants Trinin and Wright. (Reply Baylon Trinin, Darla Wright) "It is possible from hearing the signal in our senior staff meeting earlier today that the unidentified enemy attacking the Tch'kairn could be the Borg. As per our orders from Cmdr Eva Straton, we are to implement shield and phaser frequency rotation randomization along with non-standard attack and evasive patterns. I am to focus additionally on working with Engineering to keep the ship's systems secure from possible Borg infiltration. Cmdr Straton will be contacting you Lt. Trinin, with more specific orders for Security." (Reply Baylon Trinin, Darla Wright) "I will be meeting with both of you shortly to begin preparations for the possible Borg confrontation. Lt. Maraht out." Maraht then pulled up his department roster. He activated his commbadge again. "Maraht to all OPS department personnel." Maraht continued, "The possibility exists that we could be encountering the Borg on this mission. Though our chances for such an encounter in that area of space are small, we should be prepared for such an eventuality. I want Hennessey, Taylor, K'Vam, and Stin, on my team with me in Engineering to work up extra force field shielding with frequency randomization around our engines and warp core in addition to whatever else we can dream up. Douglas, Korun, McHenry, Fredericks, and T'Vul will be working on the shield and phaser frequency rotation randomization.Work will begin in thirty minutes. I am adding a list of enlisted personnel to draw upon if you need them for additional efficiency. I want updates on everyone's progress in six hours. Lt. Maraht out." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Security Offices - aCTAC/CSEC- Lieutenant Baylon Trinin - 1331) Baylon was working on more reports concerning the Security department. He was scheduling the annual phaser qualifications on the Phaser range when his commbadge chirped. =^=Maraht to Lieutenants Trinin and Wright=^= He tapped his badge and kept working on his report, "Go ahead Maraht Trinin here." he replied. (reply Wright) =^=It is possible from hearing the signal in our senior staff meeting earlier today that the unidentified enemy attacking the Tch'kairn could be the Borg. Trinin, with more specific orders for Security.=^= Mention of the Borg got Baylon's immediate attention. He looked up from his PADD and replied, "I understand. I'll have all the Security Teams, brush up on their Borg Combat tactics. Additionally, I'll have Ensign T'Vof oversee the Ship's phaser and Shield modulation adjustments." =^=I will be meeting with both of you shortly to begin preparations for the possible Borg confrontation. Lt. Maraht out.=^= Baylon frowned. He wasn't certain how much more preparations you could make in planning to encounter the Borg. Each scenario was different and the Borg so adaptable that no preparations were ever efficient. Baylon tapped his commbadge again, this time opening a channel to Ensign T'Vof. "Trinin to T'Vof. Please report to My Office in security. I have something very important to discuss with you. Trinin Out." (reply T'Vof) By the time that Lo'ren had arrived, Baylon had set aside his Phaser qualification schedule in favor of data on the Borg. The door to his office chimed and Baylon pressed the button on his desk that allowed the door to slide open. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - CEO's Office- aCEO- Lieutenant Darla Wright - 1332) Darla was doing the usual, checking on the ship status reports as she always did around this time when her commbadge chirped. =^=Maraht to Lieutenants Trinin and Wright=^= =^=Go ahead Maraht Trinin here..=^= Trinin replied. ~ I swear that man must have his hand hovering over his commbadge at every possible moment~ she mused as she responded with a tap of her own badge. "Wright here." she said simply. =^=It is possible from hearing the signal in our senior staff meeting earlier today that the unidentified enemy attacking the Tch'kairn could be the Borg. Lt. Maraht out.=^= Maraht had not even waited for Darla's answer, so the Chief Security Officer just sighed, shrugged and put down her reports. She stepped out into the Main engineering bay and tapped her commbadge, "Mac Liam and Tavik, please meet me in Main Engineering bay as soon as possible, CEO Wright out." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Bridge - ATAC- Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof - 1333) Lo'ren was more than a tad sore after the aptly named 'hell-deck' and was surreptitiously trying to stretch the bruised and complaining muscles as she monitered the Tactical systems on the Bridge. She still had one screen dedicated to the Tch'kairn language, but it was more for personal interest thhan actual translation work thanks to the gem that Dr. Trommashere had found. ~How she got it is beyond me.~ Lo'ren was checking that the shield harmonics were steady when her commbadge came to life. =/\=Trinin to T'Vof. Please report to My Office in security. I have something very important to discuss with you. Trinin Out.=/\= "Yes, Sir. On my way." Lo'ren didn't know what entailed important by Baylon Trinin, but it was obviously something not to be discussed over comm channels - at least not yet. She held the Tac station until her summoned replacement arrived - in very short order, she was pleased to note - and then hot-footed it to the turbolift and down to the Security offices. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Deck 18 - Engineering Lab 1 - ACEO Ensign (jg) Eoin Mac Liam - 13:33) Still poring over the transmissions, Eoin had completely lost track of time, but at the behest of other members of the Engineering crew had relegated himself and his group to a nearby Engineering Lab. =/\=Mac Liam and Tavik, please meet me in Main Engineering bay as soon as possible, CEO Wright out.=/\= He tapped his commbadge. "On my way." He turned to the rest of the team. "Sorry all, but other duties call." (reply any present) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Deck 6 - Science Lab 2 - Ensign (jg) Bolan Tavik - 1334) "I hope that does it," Bolan said as he finished the last test. "One can always hope it will work perfectly." (reply McKenzie) A call came over the comm. =/\= Mac Liam and Tavik, please meet me in Main Engineering bay as soon as possible, CEO Wright out." =/\= "She sounded in a hurry." Bolan said as he began to walk out. "Be back in a little bit." A short walk later he found himself in engineering and he walked over to Lieutentant Wright. "Lieutenant, you asked to see me?" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades - Security Offices - ATAC- Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof - 1335) Lo'ren tapped the entry chime and the door slip open, admitting her without further pause. She stepped into the Security Chief's office and knew - just knew - that her day would not end with her regular shift. "Lieutenant." Lo'ren nodded, feeling that no a nonsense approach would be the best at this moment. "What is it you wanted to discuss?" (reply Trinin) "Borg? That's a bit of a stretch, isn't it, sir?" Lo'ren, while by no means a Borg expert, had some idea of where the Borg had shown up in the past and it was not in the direction they were heading. (reply Trinin) The door chimed and Lo'ren turned as the swish of the door cycle made itself heard and the floor - despite the normal shock absorbtion - vibrated slightly as the Horta Ops Chief entered the room. "Warm greetings Lt. Trinin. Warmest greetings to you as well, Ensign." "Greetings to you aswell, Lt. Maraht." As much as she would love to engage the Horta in further pleasant conversation, Lo'ren left those pleasantries beyond greetings silent. The thought of Borg was on her mind and left no room for happy chatter. ~Between heavy ordinance weapons training and Borg preparedness - You may not have much of a life for a while, Mutt.~ (Reply Baylon Trinin) Maraht acknowledged the greetings and turned to the problem at hand. "Lt. Trinin, I have my staff readying the ship to make all the changes that Commander Straton has requested concerning any possible confrontation with the Borg. I am to liaison with you to do so, to insure that it is done as efficiently and quickly as possible." (Reply Baylon Trinin) Having been as polite as she deemed necessary, Lo'ren addressed the living stone, "Lieutenant Trinin was just bringing me up to speed, sir." Turning to a point roughly between the two senior officers, Lo'ren then addressed both of them. "It appears that at least some parts, if not all, of the Operations, Tactical and Security teams will be extremely busy for the next while. Whatever I can do to help get things underway, sirs." ~Stop volunteering, Mutt! You'll get no sleep, let alone recreation.~ (Reply Baylon Trinin, Maraht) The great rock was all business, "Where exactly would you like to begin? I have personnel checking over the power disbursement and current condition of the ship's shields right now." Lo'ren wanted to consider what needed to be done, she just wasn't as well versed as she probably ought to be. She turned to Baylon and waited for the Betaziod's next comment. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Security Offices - aCTAC/CSEC- Lieutenant Baylon Trinin - 1336) "Lieutenant." Lo'ren nodded, feeling that no a nonsense approach would be the best at this moment. "What is it you wanted to discuss?" "I'd like to discuss with you the thought that the Borg may be involved as a possible aggressor" Baylon replied "Borg? That's a bit of a stretch, isn't it, sir?" Lo'ren, asked. "In my opinion, yes it is. But the First Officer gives the idea merit and so we'll do so as well." The door chimed and Lo'ren turned as the swish of the door cycle made itself heard and the floor - despite the normal shock absorption - vibrated slightly as the Horta Ops Chief entered the room. "Warm greetings Lt. Trinin. Warmest greetings to you as well, Ensign." "Greetings to you as well, Lt. Maraht." As much as she would love to engage the Horta in further pleasant conversation, Lo'ren left those pleasantries beyond greetings silent. The thought of Borg was on her mind and left no room for happy chatter. ~Between heavy ordinance weapons training and Borg preparedness - You may not have much of a life for a while, Mutt.~ "Mister Maraht." Baylon replied with a nod. Maraht acknowledged the greetings and turned to the problem at hand. "Lt. Trinin, I have my staff readying the ship to make all the changes that Commander Straton has requested concerning any possible confrontation with the Borg. I am to liaison with you to do so, to insure that it is done as efficiently and quickly as possible." "I understand. I think for this instance it is best if I handle the security details and internal systems and assigned Ensign T'Vof to aid you in the tactical aspects of the situation." Having been as polite as she deemed necessary, Lo'ren addressed the living stone, "Lieutenant Trinin was just bringing me up to speed, sir." Turning to a point roughly between the two senior officers, Lo'ren then addressed both of them. "It appears that at least some parts, if not all, of the Operations, Tactical and Security teams will be extremely busy for the next while. Whatever I can do to help get things underway, sirs." The great rock was all business, "Where exactly would you like to begin? I have personnel checking over the power disbursement and current condition of the ship's shields right now." Baylon looked over at the Horta. "I assume that Commander Straton gave you specific Orders?" he asked. (reply Maraht) "In that case I suggest that you have the operations and engineering teams make the preparations for the shield and phaser harmonics switch over. Then Ensign T'Vof can verify that everything will be as effective as it could be. She can bring the tactical staff and myself up to speed on the changes, and we can move forward from there. In the mean time I'll have the modulation chips in all the personal weapons on board replaced with a wider variable modulator and start having the internal security field emitters adjusted as well." He turned to T'Vof. "I suggest that you start by researching past tactical encounters with the Borg. I trust you to make sound judgments where the modifications are concerned. Just tell Maraht and Wright what we need and let them do the technical stuff. Focus on the tactics and encounter resolution. If we do encounter the Borg, you'll have to run the tactical department on your own. I'll have my hands full just keeping up with security. If you need any help, let me know. I'll be glad to assist where I can." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Security Offices - COPS Lt. Maraht - 1337) Maraht pressed the door chime and courteously waited to be bidden to enter. Rumbling his bulk through the doorway, he entered the Security office and found himself with Lt. Trinn and one of the newer officers. "Warm greetings Lt. Trinin. Warmest greetings to you as well, Ensign." (Reply Baylon Trinin, Lo'ren T'Vof) After acknowledging their replies using his slightly tinny voice from his Vox, Maraht turned to the task most on his mind. "Lt. Trinin, I have my staff readying the ship to make all the changes that Commander Straton has requested concerning any possible confrontation with the Borg. I am to liaison with you to do so, to insure that it is done as efficiently and quickly as possible." (Reply Baylon Trinin, Lo'ren T'Vof) "Where exactly would you like to begin? I have personnel checking over the power disbursement and current condition of the ship's shields right now." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Security Offices – COPS Lt. Maraht - 1338) Lt. Trinin looked over at the Horta. "I assume that Commander Straton gave you specific orders?" he asked. "Commander Straton's orders were to implement shield and phaser frequency rotation randomization, along with non-standard attack and evasive patterns," said Maraht. "She also wanted me to focus on working with Engineering on keeping the ship's systems secure from possible Borg infiltration." "In that case I suggest that you have the operations and engineering teams make the preparations for the shield and phaser harmonics switch over. Then Ensign T'Vof can verify that everything will be as effective as it could be. She can bring the tactical staff and myself up to speed on the changes, and we can move forward from there. In the mean time I'll have the modulation chips in all the personal weapons on board replaced with a wider variable modulator and start having the internal security field emitters adjusted as well." "That sounds good to me, Lt. Trinin," said Maraht. Lt. Trinin turned to Ensign T'Vof. I'll be glad to assist where I can." (Reply Lo'ren T'Vof) "I am sure I will enjoy working with you Ensign T'Vof. Have you had any experience in encountering Borg before?" asked Maraht. His finer phalangi shivered. "I have not dealt with them personally myself, except in training in the Academy." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Security Offices - ATAC- Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof - 1339) Lt. Trinin turned to Ensign T'Vof. "I suggest that you start by researching past tactical encounters with the Borg. I trust you to make sound judgments where the modifications are concerned. If we do encounter the Borg, you'll have to run the tactical department on your own. I'll have my hands full just keeping up with security. If you need any help, let me know. I'll be glad to assist where I can." Lo'ren nodded to Baylon, "I'll make it a priority to make sure I'm up to speed on Borg tactics, sir. I'll do my best to keep you freed up for Security, in the event we do encounter the Borg, or any other Hostiles for that matter." (reply Trinin iyw) "I am sure I will enjoy working with you Ensign T'Vof. Have you had any experience in encountering Borg before?" asked Maraht. His finer phalangi shivered. "I have not dealt with them personally myself, except in training in the Academy." "No Mr. Maraht, I haven't had the, uh, Pleasure of encountering the Borg." Lo'ren grimaced slightly as she made it abundantly, sacastically her true thoughts on meeting the Borg - namely, not to be looked to as an actually pleasurable event. (reply Maraht iyw) "Where should we start in the Tactical department? Like you, my experience with the Borg is in simulation and through studying Captain Jean-Luc Picard's specs on them. He did have quite the unique perspective on them, afterall." Lo'ren mentally checked off the sources she ought to check out in looking up the Borg: Picard, Hansen, Icheb, Shelby... she'd have to look up any others but three former Borg and a Borg expert would do to start. ~Might not do too badly to see what the Commander has to say on the subject , Mutt.~ Lo'ren added FO Straton to her short list, as they were Borg-prepping on her recommend. (reply Maraht) "I think we can get started on that right away." Lo'ren nodded at the Rock and turned to Lt. Trinin, "If you'll excuse us, please Lieutenant. Sounds like we have work to get to." (reply Trinin, Maraht) Lo'ren let the undulating boulder move out ahead of her and then followed Maraht into the hall. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades - Main Engineering- aCEO- Lieutenant Darla Wright - 1340) It didn't take long for the two engineers to meet her. Darla was already considering what she'd have to do to make the needed modifications to the ship's systems. "Lieutenant, you asked to see me?" Tavik asked as he arrived. (reply Mac Liam) "Yes, thank you." she replied at their question. "I've been informed by operations that the First officer is concerned that we may be encountering Borg at our destination. That means we need to do a great deal to be as prepared as possible." "Lieutenant Maraht should be joining us shortly, but in the mean time, I want both of you to come up with some things that you think would be helpful in dealing with a possible Borg infestation of this ship. We can probably assume that the Borg, if they are there, will most likely manage to board the ship, but I don't want a repeat of the Enterprise incident where we end up losing control of the Hades. I'd rather have a plan in place, at least from the engineering side of it." "Mister Tavik, I'll ask you to work with Operations and Tactical to modify weapons and shields." (reply Tavik) "Mister Mac Liam, You'll be helping me with the general ship-wide preparations, including any changes that we will need to make to the Power distribution system, computer core or other systems." (reply Mac Liam) "Both of you need to pass off any translation duties to Mister McKenzie and the science teams. I can no longer spare you for that project." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Security Offices- aCTAC/CSEC- Lieutenant Baylon Trinin - 1340.5) Lo'ren nodded to Baylon, "I'll make it a priority to make sure I'm up to speed on Borg tactics, sir. I'll do my best to keep you freed up for Security, in the event we do encounter the Borg, or any other Hostiles for that matter." "Very Good, Ensign. That's all I can ask of you." he replied. "I am sure I will enjoy working with you Ensign T'Vof. Have you had any experience in encountering Borg before?" asked Maraht. His finer phalangi shivered. "I have not dealt with them personally myself, except in training in the Academy." "No Mr. Maraht, I haven't had the, uh, Pleasure of encountering the Borg." "Where should we start in the Tactical department? Like you, my experience with the Borg is in simulation and through studying Captain Jean-Luc Picard's specs on them. He did have quite the unique perspective on them, after all." Lo'ren replied. "Remodulating the shields on a random frequency rotation would be the place to start," answered Maraht. "I have staff in place ready to help, especially where I cannot easily enter. Regrettably there are a few places on this ship I cannot go myself, such as through the Jeffries tubes where vertical ladders are involved." I think we can get started on that right away." Ensign T'Vof nodded at Maraht and turned to Lt. Trinin. "If you'll excuse us, please Lieutenant. Sounds like we have work to get to." Maraht voiced his agreement and said, "Feel free to contact me should you need to, Lt. Trinin." "Of course. Let me know if you need any help from me, or if you need some other perspectives. Also please be certain to keep the captain, First officer and Myself in the loop concerning any changes that you implement." (reply T'Vof, Maraht iyw) "Very good then, You'd best get busy, we have no idea how soon we may possibly encounter the Borg, so we'd better start sooner rather than later." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Security Offices – COPS Lt. Maraht – 1341) "No, Mr. Maraht, I haven't had the, uh, pleasure of encountering the Borg." Lo'ren grimaced slightly, making it abundantly clear that she did not think of meeting the Borg as a pleasurable event. "We can but hope that the hypothesis of the Borg being the Tck'chairn's enemy is incorrect," said Maraht, flicking his finer phalangi in distaste. "I wish to avoid the Borg myself." "Where should we start in the Tactical department?" asked Ensign T'Vof. "Like you, my experience with the Borg is in simulation and through studying Captain Jean-Luc Picard's specs on them. He did have quite the unique perspective on them, after all." "Remodulating the shields on a random frequency rotation would be the place to start," answered Maraht. Maraht voiced his agreement and said, "Feel free to contact me should you need to, Lt. Trinin." (Reply Baylon Trinin) Once Lt. Trinin had dismissed them, Maraht rumbled his way through the door and out into the corridor. Ensign T'Vof followed. "I thought we might start with the bow and portside, Ensign T'Vof, if you don't mind," explained Maraht. "And then we could work our way around the ship to starboard and then aft, coordinating with the various teams. How does that sound to you?" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Deck 7 - Outside Security Offices – ATAC- Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof – 1342) "I thought we might start with the bow and portside, Ensign T'Vof, if you don't mind," explained Maraht. "And then we could work our way around the ship to starboard and then aft, coordinating with the various teams. How does that sound to you?" Lo'ren oriented her mental map of the ships' specs. "Sounds like a good plan, Mr. Maraht." She fell in step with the Horta. That is to say, she kept in line with the Ops officer as he didn't seem to have a discernable gait she could match. "I think it might be good to review the specs for the ablative armour as we go along. If the shields fail we'll need the armour at top strength until we can get the shields back on line." (reply Maraht) "There's one small blessing at least; I've been studying the blast from the Tch'kairn video clip and I think we can also manage to cover my extimates for the enemy fire power. As long as the blast is indicative of the fire power typical of the unknown group. that is." (reply Maraht) Lo'ren was hopeful that the Chief of Ops would be amenable to her ideas and decided to bring up something she had been toying with. "Is there any possibility of enhancing the regenerative shielding at this point, Mr. Maraht? I have some thoughts, but I know we'll be stretched to the max just preparing what we have now." (reply Maraht) "I was thinking about tying in some holo-systems through the field emitters. If we could create a sort of holo-ablative armour..." Lo'ren trailed off, realizing how out to lunch her idea really thought. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Deck 18 - CEO's Office - ACEO Ensign (jg) Eoin Mac Liam - 13:43) Eoin walked into the office, and noticed Ensign Tavik had arrived shortly before he had. "Lieutenant, you asked to see me?" Tavik asked as he arrived. "God and Mary be with you, sir. You wanted to see us?" "Yes, thank you." she replied at their question. "I've been informed by operations that the First officer is concerned that we may be encountering Borg at our destination. That means we need to do a great deal to be as prepared as possible." Eoin felt himself blanche ever so slightly, and hoped no one else noticed. ~Borg? We haven't been able to decipher a name from the attackers yet, but I pray to God and all the saints that it's not the Borg.~ "Lieutenant Maraht should be joining us shortly, but in the mean time, I want both of you to come up with some things that you think would be helpful in dealing with a possible Borg infestation of this ship. (reply Tavik) "Mister Mac Liam, You'll be helping me with the general ship-wide preparations, including any changes that we will need to make to the Power distribution system, computer core or other systems." Eoin gave a terse nod. "Both of you need to pass off any translation duties to Mister McKenzie and the science teams. I can no longer spare you for that project." "Understood, ma'm. Where are we due first?" --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Deck 18 - CEO's Office - CEO Lt. Darla Wright- 1345) "Understood, ma'am. Where are we due first?" Mac Liam asked. "I think that while Mister Tavik handles the tactical side of things, we can start with the most critical systems. The Computer core, environmental systems and the Power Distribution systems seem to be first in order. Why don't you start with the Computer core, It will probably take the longest to modify." Darla replied. "Take whomever you need." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades- Holodeck 1- CO - Captain Devan Sash- 1427) Sash stepped out of the circle that initiated the TIHS system, and the view of the area of space that he was simulated in disappeared. It struck him odd that he was doing a simulation inside the simulation of the Hades. It was just strange. He looked around for any reaction to his solution to the situation. The Tactical Integrated Holographic System had been designed to give the tactical officer a more immediate response to his needs in battle. In theory it was a great idea... as long as they had power to keep the holo-emitters on line. Otherwise, it was just another cool idea. Still, it was exhilarating to be able to simply point to an objet and get the tactical read out, or even to fire weapons. It reminded him of a high tech version of something that they used to call 'video games' in days gone by. Still, he didn't think that they had been designed for the purpose that Sash had put them to. He was able to use the system to have the Hades break into Tri-Vector mode, and through accessing their ships security codes, was also able to control their tactical stations. Now,of course, having one person controlling tactical stations on three ships would have it's disadvantages, unless you had a specific plan in mind, and coordinating three different people at the same time might hurt the probability of success of a venture. The resounding silence meant one of two things, that nobody could believe what he did, or that what he did actually worked. "End and save program," Sash called out, and the holodeck returned to its natural state. He looked around for a reaction from Trinin. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Holodeck 1- aCTAC/CSEC- Lieutenant Baylon Trinin - 1429) Baylon shook his head as captain sash stepped out of the tactical ring. He was pretty certain that the designers of the system had never intended it to be used in the manner in which it had just been deployed. Baylon found it to be a very interesting concept. The CO was definitely a more wily commander than the Security Chief had given him credit for. His respect for the man, rose at least two notches. "End and save program," Sash called out, and the Holodeck returned to its natural state. He looked around for a reaction from Trinin. "Well, sir." Baylon began. "A frank assessment." "I definitely think that you're up to speed on the systems operational capabilities. And right up until you hacked into the other portions of the tri-vector systems, you were maintaining an excellent reaction rate and impact ratio. That seemed to drop off by 12.35% once you started running all three segments. " "You made the minimum grade, and your approach was definitely novel. So you've made your certifications without difficulty. I think you would have rated much higher if you had stuck to a single element of the Hades." The Betazoid smiled, however. "But ratings aside, I was duly impressed. I didn't even stop to think that the system could be used that way." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades- Holodeck 1- CO - Captain Devan Sash- 1430) Sash listened to what his Security Chief had to say. He wasn't surprised by the frankness of Trinin's assessment. The captain had asked for the man to be honest. It didn't do him any good for him to go through all this and then not be good enough, then to have his officers not be honest with him. That would cost lives. And Trinin, of course, was first in line when they handed out the character trait of honesty. Sash wondered if the man had gone back for seconds. When Trinin said, "You made the minimal grade," Sash tried hard not to frown. He actually had gotten used to scoring low on assessments, as his solutions to some conflicts often fell outside the norm... what they would say as "outside the box" of conventional thinking. He remembered an instructor at the academy once saying that Sash's solution to and engineering issue was so unique that he was lucky that he hadn't blown the whole ship to "hell in a handbasket." (Whatever a handbasket was.) It didn't matter that the solution worked, the instructor refused to pass Cadet Sash "solely on the basis of luck." It seemed that the Betazoind may have sensed the CO's mood and changed his tact. "But ratings aside, I was duly impressed. I didn't even stop to think that the system could be used that way." Sash relaxed, mentally, hoping that his body language hadn't belied his feelings. "Thank you Baylon," he said. "What's the point of having something new if you can't just play around with it to see what it can do? And who knows, we may need to use that in a conflict. It's good to know that it would work, if need be." Then he took a deep breath, "But I agree, more conventional methods were probably our best bet in that situation. Sometimes an idea comes to me, and I just have to try it." (reply Trinin) Then Sash added, "I'd like you to set up this training program for me on daily basis, for the next week, and then perhaps monthly, until I have it down. You don't need to be here every time, but I'd be happy to send you the results for each session for your analysis." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Holodeck 1- aCTAC/CSEC- Lieutenant Baylon Trinin - 1431) "Thank you Baylon," Sash said. "What's the point of having something new if you can't just play around with it to see what it can do? And who knows, we may need to use that in a conflict. It's good to know that it would work, if need be." Then he took a deep breath, "But I agree, more conventional methods were probably our best bet in that situation. Sometimes an idea comes to me, and I just have to try it." "I completely agree, sir. A battle hardened Andorian once told me that ' we only push the boundaries of tactics when we are willing to push the edge of convention and try the unconventional' I tend to agree with that philosophy personally. Then Sash added, "I'd like you to set up this training program for me on daily basis, for the next week, and then perhaps monthly, until I have it down. You don't need to be here every time, but I'd be happy to send you the results for each session for your analysis." "I'd be happy to, sir. I'll randomize the difficulty and the hostiles so that you are never repeating the same scenarios. Additionally I might suggest that you personalize your user settings to more closely match your body movements and your personal tactical style. I know that whenever I would watch ranae train on the system it almost looked like she was dancing inside the tactical ring. It seemed to work well for her and once I set my own personalized settings profile, my efficiency improved considerably. I have no doubt that yours would also." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Personal Quarters, FO Commander Eva Straton, 22:45) Eva sat at her desk dressed in nothing but a robe, her long red hair flowing freely down over her shoulders, having only recently gotten out of the shower. Her half eaten dinner sat forgotten and cold on her desk. With a glass of Andorian whisky in one hand, she sat and contemplated her barren surroundings. Her bags and the bulk of her belongings still sat in a distant corner waiting to be unpacked. ~Oh, Sasha how I miss you and the twins.~ She thought with a sigh taking a sip of the whisky. ~I feel empty and alone without the three of you with me. I have nothing but my duty till the goddess see's fit to bring us together again.~ She activated her desk terminal and brought up the ships current status and stared at it absently scrolling through the various departmental readouts as her mind wandered over the events of the past several months. ~If I would have known that leaving the Boudicca for Betezed would have led me here would I still have left so quickly? Did I really have any other choice? Had I stayed it would have put Sasha and the twins lives in grave peril. I could not have allowed that, even if it had cost me my life. What mother would not die for her children? Now I am separated from them, and my Imzadi by millions of light years, but they are all safe. Torture though it may be, I will endure it as I have every other trial laid before me. The Goddess tests me, tries my faith to see if I will remain true to my oath, if I will uphold my vows.~ "I. Will. Not. Waver." She growled as she downed the last of the whisky and slammed the empty glass down on the desk. Deactivating her terminal, she rose and headed to bed determined to continue doing her duty till she was reunited with her family no matter how long or how hard the road may be. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- end compile
